This trip brings you from Western Massachusetts to the city of Burlington, Vermont on the shore of Lake Champlain. To get here, you will ride on some of the most scenic backroads in New England and take in the charm of several small, New England towns along the way.
The next morning, hop on the ferry to New York and continue your journey southward along the lake toward Lake George. Along the route, you can visit several spots having historical significance dating back to the American Revolutionary era during her fight for independence.
The first day's ride on this trip is just over 210 miles in length. Day 2 has you riding 260 miles as you wind your way back to Western Massachusetts. Riding time is approximately 13 hours. This trip can be modified to be a 3 day trip, permitting more time to enjoy all that the region has to offer. If desired, we can provide a modified itinerary with suggestions for lodging for the second evening.
A Revolutionary Ride
Cross the bridge to the playground of the rich and famous - Newport, Rhode Island. It's the home of America's Cup yacht racing. Jazz. And of course, the Mansions. The City of Newport is not only one of America's oldest cities, it also has the distinction of having more original colonial period buildings than any other early American city.
Starting in Western Massachusetts, this trip has you riding specially selected, scenic roads through the Connecticut countryside on your way to Newport. Depending on your timing, you may catch any of the many festivals celebrating kites, jazz, folk music or comedy. Perhaps you'll tour the mansions or just drive along the coast. How about spending some time in the Historic Downtown secton of Newport?
On your way home, you'll be passing a famous restaurant in Rhode Island at dinnertime. This legendary spot has over 75 ovens in the kitchen to keep the dinners coming. Yum!
